    Abstract

Abstract As the importance of urban development has emerged since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 1992, there has been a new awareness of the significance of urban architecture for sustainable urban development. Sustainable urban development should be able to respond to changes in a city, including in the city’s social, economic, and environmental conditions, and achieve sustainable growth through such changes. This study intends to explore the theories, documents, and previous research concerning the sustainable city by looking at cases of sustainable cities in advanced countries, classify the limits of existing urban development methods and expression methods, and identify the five principles of sustainable urban design through those classifications and principles.
